Chocolate Chip Minty Cream Soap Bars

CHOCOLATE CHUNK PEPPERMINT CREAM SOAP BARS!!!

They are back by popular demand.  When the cooler months of fall come around the request start pouring in.   This is a dreamy, creamy soap bar.  It has real chocolate, essential oils of peppermint and spearmint.  We load this bar with heavy cream, cocoa butter and shea butter.  All the fat without a pound of guilt.  Your senses will  awaken with the minty essential oils, but your cravings of buttery, warm, gooey chocolate will be satisfied.  Well, you still have to wait.  These bars need to cure for a couple of weeks.

Turkish Mocha Vanilla Cream Latte Soap Bars

Turkish Mocha Vanilla Cream Latte Soap Bars

Wow, that is a mouth full. We just made these coffee infused heavy cream goats milk soap bars a few days ago and just cut them fresh to cure. They smell so yummy we need to run out to Starbucks and get a real latte to go! These soaps will be part of our holiday soap line. Just imagine sitting in a tub drinking a real latte and using a bar of Turkish Mocha Soap. Only a real lover of coffee could understand where we are coming from when we made this soap.
Melanie and I are known around the neighborhood as always having a cup of java in our hands at all times. We have hour long conversations talking about coffee. We are pretty serious about our cup of joe. We wish you could smell our soap!

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

Sweet Sixteen Birthday Cake!

This was a "Sweet 16 Birthday Cake" for my niece. I made lollipops and scattered them about the cake and I made chocolate candles. I wanted the cake to be as sweet as her and fun. The bottom layer was my decadent chocolate cake with chocolate truffle filling and the top layers was a sponge cake moisten with a simple syrup and cannoli filling. This is actually one of two cakes. Yesterday was her real birthday, and Saturday she is having a party. I will post a picture of that cake. I love buttercream and try to make most of my cakes with buttercream. I find that fondant is just not that tasty and it does gross me out knowing that people are touching that cake repeatedly with their hands to smooth it out. You can't do that with a buttercream cake, not to mention I have known bakers to keep their fondant cakes out for days uncovered while they continue to work on them like playdough. We need a buttercream revolution! It is frustrating as a professional pastry chef seeing brides asking for fondant cakes for the wow factor. To me nothing seems more luscious than a simple buttercream cake with fresh flowers or fruit. I hope you all agree. Unfortunately, when I get an order for a fondant cake I must submit for the almighty dollar.

Texas Size Red Velvet Cupcakes

We are having our annual block party today. I usually make some kind of dessert to pass around the neighborhood. I decided to make my Red Velvet Cupcakes. This is one of the best Red Velvet Cake recipes in my opinion. It is moist and delicious. I have put a dollop of chocolate Ganache and I made a cream cheese frosting with a red candy melt. Is your mouth watering? If so, I have done good!

Recipe:

Dry ingredients:
3 1/2 T. cocoa powder (unsweetened)
2 cups cake flour
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. almond extract
sift dry ingredients on parchment or wax paper
Wet ingredients:
2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs room temperature
1/4 cup red food coloring
1cup sour cream room temperature (full fat)
1cup heavy cream room temperature
1 Tablespoon white vinegar

In mixer blend all wet ingredients except sour cream, heavy cream and vinegar put in separate mixing bowl and blend. In mixer add butter, coloring, sugar, eggs and beat until white and fluffy. Slowly add 1/3 of sour cream mixture and alternate with flour mixture in 3 separate application. Bake at 350 degrees about 20-25 minutes until the top springs back when touched. Do not overbake or you will dry out your cupcakes.
I use large muffin tin and line it with large paper cupcake liners. Makes 12 jumbo or 24 regular.
Frosting:
2 sticks butter
16 oz. cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
pinch salt

Blend in mixer until fluffy.

Ganache:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate
1 cup heavy cream

Heat milk, bring to boil and remove from heat add chocolate. Work with a whish gently stir the chocolate and cream until the chocolate is fully melted. This will take a minute and you will get a deep chocolate rich sauce. Allow this to cool until you get a thicker spreadable consistency. Spread a Tablespoon on top and pipe out a dollop of Frosting.

Going out to have some fun!!!

Cake for Dad

Chocolate Truffle Cake
I must tell you I am very busy making cakes besides making soap. It was my Mother's neighbors Dad's Birthday. He loves chocolate. I made the ultimate chocolate cake. It is a rich, moist, espresso, very dark chocolate cake. This cake is good on its own with nothing but a cold glass of milk, but in this case we embellished this cake with hazelnut kissed dark chocolate truffle filling and of course, real french butter cream and crushed chocolate wafer cookies.
Happy Birthday Peter!!

Peaches and Cream Soap (Heavy Cream and Goats Milk)

Peaches and Cream Cold Process Soap
We have gotten a request for a Peaches and Double Heavy Cream and Goats Milk Soap. We do not make this particular soap often. It is a very tempermental and difficult soap to make. We think that the actual peach puree in the soap gives us this problem. We only make this soap for our very best customers because we have been known to lose several batches in the process. This soap is double the price because of the lossess and trouble it causes to make. This is a superfatted moisturizing bar of soap and is heavenly. Heavy cream and goats milk are simply luscious bars of soap. They are so well worth it in the end! My personal favorite and many of our customers is the Milk and Mint Heavy Cream and Goats Milk Soap. It is just wonderful.

Cake for the Ladies

I have a wonderful customer of mine who plays cards every two weeks with the girls and orders a special treat for the ladies. They insist that she only orders from me. I feel honored. I truly love baking for these wonderful ladies. When I know that someone really appreciates my craft, it makes me want to put just a little extra love into it. ENJOY LADIES, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

Six layers of white cake drenched with raspberry syrup, each layer is filled with white chocolate pastry cream, berries and covered in french buttercream. The topping is mixed berries and a chocolate butterfly on the side.

Birthday Cake for Mom

I know what your thinking, is this a food blog or a soap blog??? Well, both. Soap and food some how they go together, at least for Melanie and I. This cake was not for my Mom but a good friend's Mom. She gets a couple of soap bars from us as a gift, too. All our friends and family get a cake and some soap. Not a bad deal. They are both consumable and enjoyable.

By the way, my friend informed me today that she loved both!!

Holidays are coming!

Well, I know it sounds a bit early. And, don't we all hate seeing holiday items
in our local drugstores in July and August? But, as soapmakers, Angela and I
must plan ahead to create wonderful holiday soaps that will cure and be ready
by late autumn. There is a big demand for the wonderful scents of the season.
From the warm and spicy, to the brisk, clean foresty smell of a freshly-cut tree,
we look forward to making these soaps every year, and really have fun with it.
Stay tuned for pictures of our completed soaps coming in the near future!
In the meantime, let's all enjoy what's left of summer.

Baby Shower

Baby Shower Cupcake Bombs
(They are just Precious!)

Today, we delivered an order for Baby Shower favors. The proud Aunt was thrilled when she saw the favors. She actually had tears in her eyes. That made our day to see her so happy with tears of joy! We put our heart and love into every order we make. We wish we could be there to see the mother-to-be.
